The Frost
The frost seeped from the edges of the glass.
Forming a tiny menagerie of paisleys along the window sill.
It allowed me to see the white blanket that covered our backyard.
Granting me an outlet from the dishes that bathed.
I thought about leaving my kids today,
In the morning when the dog greeted my groggy eyes.
I missed desire, an invasive yearning for yearning
The sun stole it.
But my daughter broke the marinating concentration
That I had on him. A warming lover I might see again
She asked about my husband. The mule.
That stepped into frame. Clomping and chugging forward
As an ancient heavy diesel engine. He trudged through the snow
I wish to stay, for him. Might I focus on him?
I loved him.
Why again did I practice surrender?
